Status Report #34 - Too. Much. To. Do.

 Hi there, Folks! Michael here. Welcome to a Status Report where we have...... not much to report. >_>

As you might have read last week, we've inherited a house and are preparing to move in, and while we wouldn't dream of complaining about such a thing, it -does- mean that our normal life is pretty much on pause, for the moment.

So, i suppose i'll give you a small update on how things have developed since that post.

Well, we spent most of the week in our new house. We did some cleanup-work, but mostly the week was about buerocratic stuff. Lot of phone calls with banks, electricians, town hall, plumbers and what have you. So we haven't really got enough interesting stuff together for another "Changing Burrows"-post.

That -should- change this coming week, because we wanna dedicate some more time to actually working on the practical stuff in the house, getting certain things cleared out, getting the upstairs kitchen to a point where we can properly utilize it (The downstairs one was the primary kitchen for the longest time and it's really nice, but the downstairs apartment is the one we'll eventually rent out, so we need to get the upstairs one going).

Rather unhelpfully, our week at work has been a draining mess. We were at our old department, helping to train up a new guy who's been hired to permanently fill the vacancy we left when we switched departments a while back. Except, well....

Y'know that feeling, when someone's quite nice and friendly, and you don't wanna say anything bad about them, but ultimately, you simply can't ignore the fact that they're utterly incompetent and can't seem to do anything right at all?

...... yeah. It was pretty exhausting. I suspect he won't be around for long. 😕

Not our problem anymore though, because this coming week we'll be back in our usual department, where we can just get our work done in peace.

..... and then go to our house and keep getting work done, afterwards.😉

One interesting dilemma we've got to work out is where we should stay after work.

Staying at our house has the obvious advantage that we can get stuff done there, which is nice. It's also a 5-minute walk away from our workplace, so staying there during the week is -waaaay- more efficient than travelling to our apartment. Saves us about an hour and a half each day, which would otherwise be wasted on our commute. (7.5 hours per working week! Insane!)

However, there is the fact that for the time being, when we stay at our house, we're in Raccoon mode. Kinda just scrounging, living off of whatever we find in the fridge (There's a lot of food left over!). The electricity and water bills, along with the internet are all currently available, but only because the bills are still paid. We're working on setting up our own providers for that stuff but currently, everything feels kinda "borrowed".

We also don't have our PC over there (Not much point, with borrowed power and internet), which means that our art, music, flight simming and gaming hobbies are all left at our old apartment, so we kinda just watch YouTube and read for entertainment.

So where we spend our time is currently a question of efficiency vs. fulfilment. We spent this weekend at our apartment, simply to take some time to relax and play video games after the draining week we've had, but yeah if we had spent the weekend at the house, we could've gotten -a lot- done with those 2 days.

So that's something we'll have to figure out. Obviously, the more we can get ourselves established at the house, the less of an issue this will become, and when we've finally sorted things out enough to where we're paying for our own power and internet, and have brought our PC over, we'll kinda have everything in one place and the only reason to go back to our current apartment will be to pick up our stuff. That'll be a good first goal to shoot for.

But yeah, this weekend, we stayed at our apartment, watched Stargate SG-1 and played The Precinct. Not gonna write about this one, mind you. It's a really fun game and we'll happily recommend it, but we're playing it specifically to relax and enjoy the limited gaming time we can carve out.😉

Next weekend, we'll likely be at the house, working on establishing ourselves. Similar story during the week, where traveling to our apartment every day would just be an incredible waste of time.

[Amalia here, just thought of something to add while proofreading: Another thing this has done is to utterly shatter any daily routines we had. We kinda have to figure out for ourselves when/how to fit in fitness, self-care and stuff. Gotta remember to function as a human being, still!]

So yeah, again, this whole project has turned our life upside down in short order, but we'll ride it out, because eventually, when all is said and done, we should be in a significantly better place than we used to be.

Also, our house isn't in this picture, but check out the lovely, idyllic little village we'll be moving into!😉

So yeah, hoping that by the next weekend, we'll get enough stuff done in the house to show off some progress! Until then, stay safe, make sure you properly fill out your real estate tax forms and have a good one!😜
