Status Report #27.5: Small update on the rebrand

So, not technically time yet for a proper Status Report, but considering the situation, we thought we'd give you a small update on where things stand with our rebrand.

So, you might have seen it recently: We "released" a small little tune called "Makin' moves". We just put that together real quick in order to re-establish our music release pipeline.

By which we mean, get an artist profile established under our name for all the streaming services, and quite importantly, see how things are gonna work on YouTube. You see, YT is a bit funny with how things work. When you distribute music to there, it goes into YouTube Music, which is actually a standalone service, separate from the normal website. However, if you don't have an artist channel setup, your music also goes to a topic channel. This is separate from a normal channel, but you can "claim" a topic channel with your normal channel, turning it into an official artist channel.

But mind you, that's an artist channel on YouTube, NOT an artist profile on YouTube Music.

Thing is, when you distribute stuff with a new artist name, it also goes on a new YT music profile, and a new topic channel. And from what we could tell, once a topic channel has been claimed, it can never be changed or un-claimed. Meaning that from what we can tell, our old YT channel is stuck being tied to the Captain Casual artist profile forever.

Sooooo we've made a new channel. It's not an official artist channel yet, because currently there isn't a proper topic channel for Close Quarters Wombat, yet. (It's currently in "release - topic", which is a temporary thing YT does.)

Also, because we unfortunately shot from the hip here, we had already renamed our old channel "Close Quarters Wombat" as well, which we now can't change back for a couple of weeks. Meh.

Our new Spotify profile is set up and we've sent a request to add it to our artist's account so we can add a bio and stuff.

So generally speaking, things are now established in most places except YouTube and Spotify, where we've got to just.... wait.

But yeah, another thing was sorting out all the links on all of our various profiles. Turns out that if you change your handle everywhere, all the links break! Not unexpected, but if you've diligently interlinked your stuff all over the place, that takes some fixin'!😛

Though for the most part, this whole thing went relatively smooth. And in the meantime, look what we've started practicing!

 Yeeeh. Of course, it's very early days and for now, we're doing tracing stuff and practice, but we -have- started putting together our new logo. Which is important, because after the whole rebrand, it does feel like we shouldn't just go on using our same old imagery and stuff.

However, with that said, we don't wanna just stop putting stuff out until we feel "ready", so we're releasing a second post on here, today!
